How to play — Women's Basketball

The WNBA began in 1997, so unlike every other board here its whole history sits inside one continuous era. A perfect season is measured against the league's entire existence rather than a slice of it.

The board

5 seats: PG · SG · SF · PF · C. A starting five, the tightest roster on the site alongside the men's game. Five seats means pedigree matters less than fit — a great player from the wrong era still has to be one of your five.

The rounds

Each round opens one franchise in one stretch of seasons. The league's short history means the eras sit close together, so most spins land on a roster you can actually place.

The season

44 games, then a 9-game playoff gauntlet at 38 wins53–0 for the sweep. Forty-four regular-season games and a nine-win playoff run — fifty-three results. The season is short enough that a single bad stretch cannot be absorbed the way a hundred-and-sixty-game sport absorbs one.

What the record holds

The league began in 1997, so its entire history fits inside one continuous era — the only board here where that is true. 213 figures are recorded, and the eras sit close enough together that most spins land on a roster you can place immediately, which makes the comparison between them unusually direct.

What decides it

The league is small, so appearing on an All-WNBA team is genuinely rare — those lists are short enough that being on one repeatedly puts a player in a group you could name from memory. A forty-four game season also means every individual result carries more weight than it would in an eighty-two or a hundred-and-sixty-two game sport — one bad week is a far larger share of the record, and the board gives you no depth to spread that across.
