Questions
What can I play on this page?

An all-time AFL side, drafted from across the competition's history and then played through a season and the finals. The daily board is shared by everyone that day; the other modes deal fresh eras, hide the numbers, or set a budget.

How far back does the pool reach?

Through the VFL years and into the modern national competition. Each card is one real senior season, carrying the disposals, marks and goals that season produced.

How do you compare a VFL season with a modern one?

Against the football of its own time. The interchange, the rules and the fitness of the game have all changed enormously, so a season is rated against the era that produced it rather than against a modern possession count that never applied to it.

Do I need to cover every part of the ground?

Yes — ruck, midfield, forward line and defence all have to be filled. A side stacked with midfielders wins the ball all day and has nobody to kick the goals, which is the classic way a loaded list loses a final.

What is the daily AFL board?

One shared side per calendar day, identical for everyone who opens it. Draft it, watch the season run, and your record joins that day's table.

Is this the same as fantasy footy?

No. Fantasy is about the season being played now; this is the whole history of the competition at once, and the players are locked into the real seasons they actually had.

How many AFL clubs can you draft from?

21 clubs are on the board, each split into real eras. It is a small club list across a long history, so the same club can appear as several genuinely different sides decades apart.

Can one team mix players from different eras?

Yes. A finished side can hold a 1970s key forward beside a modern midfielder, because each seat is drafted from the era the reel landed on.

What makes a good AFL roster here?

Coverage across the ground rather than a stack of forwards. The season simulation needs the whole side to function, and a list that ignores defence tends to concede whatever it kicks.

Do you need to follow the modern AFL to play?

No. Records here reach back to 1897, longer than the NBA or the NHL, so a spin is as likely to land in a decade you know from history as in the current season.

What honours are recorded on an AFL card?

All-Australian Team, Brownlow Medal, Coleman Medal among them. The Brownlow is decided by umpires round by round, so it reads as a season-long verdict rather than a headline.

How far back do the AFL clubs on the board go?

Back to 1897, longer than the NBA or NHL, with Collingwood recorded across 129 seasons and 336 hall-of-fame figures.
